The list below features a breakdown of different things Pirates have already been doing to spread the Cheese.

Posters
It's been a Pirate tradition to put up posters and hand out flyers for upcoming Cheese shows.  As always, we will be happy to get you into headline SCI shows for free in exchange for your help and hard work on postering and flyering. In some cases, SCI plays festivals and shows that aren't considered "headline" shows. In many of these cases, we are not able to accommodate Pirates for free, so please inquire about a show's status before you begin helping out.

Pirates that put up posters around town for upcoming shows should cover as much territory as possible.  Obviously public areas (ones dedicated to posting bills), collegecampuses, and record stores are a given for the distribution of promotional material.  Take the extra time to ask storeowners if you can post them in their window.  This ensures that posters will remain posted regardless of city clean up or bad weatherconditions.

We encourage you to be as creative as you like with placement of posters. However, please be aware of local laws and ordinances regarding the posting of bills.  We don't want anyone getting in trouble over promoting the Cheese..

Flyers
We take pride in the diversity of our scene.  We usually become aware of other cool bands from folks like you who go to see them in different parts of the country.  If String Cheese is coming to a particular venue, check out that venue's schedule to see if shows are happening in the weeks before our show that would warrant flyering for the Cheese.  If you are not attending the shows in question, just contact the venue and let them know that you would be interested in standing outside and promoting their upcoming Cheese show..

Litter
When flyering for the Cheese, be conscious of handbills that may end up on the ground outside of the venue.  Please take a few extra minutes after the crowd leaves to pick up any handbills that may have been accidentally dropped.  This sends a positive message to the venue, and allows us to continue promoting at other shows in the future.

Although we developed the Pirates program around postering and flyering for upcoming shows, we have discovered many other things Pirates have been doing to spread the word in their area.  Please know that you shouldn't feel it necessary to pay out of pocket for promoting the Cheese, but if you are so inspired, you have our blessing.  As the number of Pirates has grown over the last couple of years, so has the depth of our program.  We owe that to you, and always encourage you to be creative in your method ofspreading the Cheese.

Whether the band is on or off tour, there are numerous duties that Pirates can take upon themselves that will help the band enormously.  Some of these duties have come from ideas we've received from Pirates like you who took it upon themselves to create a position when they weren't postering for upcoming shows.  We appreciate all of the ideas, and we encourage you tosend in any comments or suggestions.

SCI Fidelity Record Promo
With their fourth studio release, UNTYING THE NOT, SCI enters a new and intriguing juncture in their artistic evolution. The album's thirteen songs, many of which are inspired by life's obscurities, keenly explore rock melody and songcraft. The result is an ambitious and surprisingly stirring musical adventure.

Whenever SCI releases a new album, we will need people everywhere to put up posters in record stores and around town, informing the public about this new album. Let us know if you would like to help with album promo and we will get the materials out to you as soon as they come in. Send an email to: Pirates@stringcheeseincident.com and put “SCI Pirate – Album Support” in the subject. Please include your full name and US Mailing address as well.

Radio Stations
There are hundreds of radio stations across the country that are receptive to playing SCI Fidelity artists either in their regular rotation or during specialty shows.  Find out which stations in your area play this type of music, and call to request the Cheese, or other SCI Fidelity artists.  If, for whatever reason, the stations do not have SCI-Fidelity releases, let us know and we will be happy to send them immediately.

SCI Gear in Retail Stores
SCI Gear is showing up in more and more retail stores across the country. If you think SCI Gear belongs in a store near you, please send the name of the store, a phone number, and a brief description of the store to wholesale@scigear.com. Also make a point of asking the store manager or owner if they carry String Cheese merchandise. This will make it easier for us when we contact them.

Digital Music Initiative
Music sites on the Internet are popping up on a daily basis.  Many sites feature MP3 tracks for download.  Some are set up as a Real Audio radio station.  If you have a favorite music site on the net, and they do not feature SCI-Fidelity artists, let us know, and we will make sure that our music is uploaded to their site ASAP.  We will soon feature a list of web locations where people can find SCI Fidelity music on our web site.

Live Music Distribution
One of the more popular methods for spreading SCI's music to new fans has been handing out tapes of live performances at SCI shows.  If you have a favorite live show on tape, make a few copies and hook up some strangers with some new music.  It's an amazing way to get some new fans on board.
